According to Newsweek’s annual list, Albemarle Corporation was named in the top 500 Most Responsible Companies in America for 2022. The company ranks in the 171st spot and is in the top 20 of its industry. Last year, Albemarle ranked in the 300’s. Moving up the ranks shows we continue to make appropriate changes in our environment, social and corporate governance, and advance our sustainability strategies.

Charlotte-based Albemarle Corp. is considering reopening an old lithium mine near Kings Mountain to supply electric vehicle battery makers.
The 800-acre site is off Interstate 85 about 35 miles west of Charlotte. Previous owners mined there from the 1940s until the 1980s. But they shut down the mine to focus on cheaper lithium sources in South America.

Wednesday, February 19, our Kings Mountain R&D team hosted the
Advanced Placement Chemistry class from Kings Mountain High School for a
visit to the KGM site and laboratories. The team introduced the
students to Albemarle, the Lithium business and the site’s operations.
The students toured the labs, and learned how lithium is extracted and
made into a usable form.
