Donation to support training and apprenticeship programs for growing regional industries

The State of North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) has issued Albemarle a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit, allowing Albemarle to begin treating and discharging water that has accumulated in the existing mine pit at the Kings Mountain site.

The Kings Mountain mine site is one of the few known hard-rock lithium deposits in the U.S. and is expected to play a critical role in growing the U.S. supply chain of lithium. Learn about the various phases necessary to study, develop, and operate the Kings Mountain mine site.

In preparation to dewater the proposed mine pit – pending an approved permit from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) – Albemarle has constructed a temporary water treatment plant (WTP) which will be used to clean and filter the pit’s accumulated rainwater before pumping it to South Creek Reservoir for gradual release into Kings Creek.
