New Water Treatment Plant to Play Crucial Part in Pit Dewatering Process
In preparation to dewater the proposed mine pit – pending an approved permit from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) – Albemarle has constructed a temporary water treatment plant (WTP) which will be used to clean and filter the pit’s accumulated rainwater before pumping it to South Creek Reservoir for gradual release into Kings Creek.

This month, The Albemarle Foundation was recognized for its donation to help remodel the Women and Children’s building at the Cleveland County Rescue Mission (CCRM). CCRM is dedicated to serving the homeless and disadvantaged populations of Shelby, and Cleveland County, NC. By providing access to basic needs as well as opportunities for restoration, personal growth, and development, CCRM enables people to begin their journey out of crisis and into self-sufficiency. Accepting the award is Margot Plonk, Albemarle Kings Mountain Education Specialist, pictured with Michael Woods, Director, Cleveland County Rescue Mission.
